NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home

This is the third course in the three part series.  The NRA personal Protection Outside The Home course will prepare you to carry your firearm while you are away from your home.  Although not required for a CCW, it is highly recommended that this course be taken if you plan on carrying your gun away from home.

Course Goal: To develop in you the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, responsible, and ethical use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home.

Course Length: 14 hours

Course Description:
The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude involved in safely, responsibly and effectively employing a concealed handgun for self-defense. This is the third part of a three part series of training.  This is an intensive course, as you will learn and practice many diverse shooting skills in order to respond quickly and appropriately to the broad range of threats you could encounter outside the home.


Participants in this third course must possess the basic defensive handgun skills presented in the NRA basics of personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

 Required Materials:

Holster or holster purse designed for the handgun brought to class.  Must fully cover the trigger guard and must be a strong-side hip holster ONLY.
250 rounds of ammunition
Speedloaders or Magazines and holders for them.
Concealed carry clothing (jacket, sport coat, or vest)
Knee pads
Owners manual to your firearm if available.
Eye protection 
Ear protection (Electronic ear protection is highly recommended)
Pens, Pencils and note pad.
